All classes meet CE requirements for WA State LMTs.
(Barbara Helynn Robles is no longer an NCBTMB approved CE provider.)
This Lomilomi Fundamentals class teaches a clinically and structurally oriented, 60-90 minute full-body lomilomi massage done with intention to relieve pain and improve movement. The touch is bone deep yet gentle, and includes lomilomi strokes, long strokes, compressions, compression-tractions, exploratory ROM engagement and stretches, vibration, tapping, and traction.
Participants are introduced to Hawaiian healing philosophy including the concepts of aloha and other traditional values, connections with ancestors, ho’oponopono (right living and clearing wrong doing), and the power of words, thoughts and images in manifesting our desires and our life paths. Healing blessings and Hawaiian chants are included.
(NOTE: This lomilomi lineage shared in this class was developed on Hawaii Island, commonly referred to as "The Big Island". This lineage of lomilomi uses anatomically specifically focused techniques done with a modest amount of lubricant, and even sometimes done without lubricant and with the client clothed. It does NOT use long flowing strokes and abundant use of oil that many people associate with lomilomi.)
This Lomilomi Fundamentals class establishes groundwork to be built on in advanced lomilomi classes.
This class is offered in a 4-day, 8 hours per day (plus lunch), 32 CE hour format.

Learn to massage fully clothed people “anywhere and anytime”, using the Awareness Massage lomilomi approach. Learn ways to give massage in environments where people live, work and play, such as in our homes, our work places, our classrooms, our churches, at sporting events, or in hospitals or nursing homes. The recipient may sit on a sofa, a kitchen chair, a wheel chair, an office chair, a stool, a bench, another surface, and/or they may lie on the floor.
While this massage can be used with paying clients, particularly those who cannot easily lie on a massage table, it can also easily be used to treat family members, friends and colleagues in informal settings. Sessions may be a short as a few minutes, or as long as an hour, or more.
Each massage stroke is done with intention to produce specific, measurable, clinical and/or structural results. Is someone’s neck, back, shoulders or feet stiff stuck or aching? Do they have a headache? Learn techniques to provide relief.
These are also good techniques to teach your clients to use at home.

The goal of this series of the lomilomi classes is to "pa'a ke kahua", to "make firm the foundation" for lomilomi practitioners. Traditional lomilomi is grounded in the foundation of Hawaiian cultural practices and spiritual beliefs. In this class participants will experience Hawaiian protocol practices, ho'oponopono (right living and clearing wrong doing), oli (healing blessings and chants), use of both Hawaiian language and your native tongue, and of course lomilomi bodywork. Participants will be introduced to various Hawaiian elders and healers. We will explore traditional Hawaiian values and how they blossom in your life. You will explore who you are, what your specific gifts are, what your life purpose is, and how you contribute to the wellbeing of Mother earth and global community.
The Lomilomi Specific Treatment hands-on techniques taught build on the full body protocol taught in the Lomilomi Foundations class. The techniques are more specific and require more skill to do well.
Massage techniques taught include those that will help the practitioner to treat, relieve and/or resolve many problems that our clients or patients commonly encounter such as pain, discomfort and/or movement difficulties in all joints in the body. Treatment techniques useful in treating arthritis, whiplash, headaches, golf & tennis elbow, joint replacement, carpal tunnel, pain in the pelvic region, sprained ankles, and more are taught. The body is viewed and treated as a clearly interrelated whole in which what occurs in one part of the body affects all other parts of the body.
There is homework to complete between class sessions.
